De Young Musuem

This Saturday was the 10th anniversary of SanFrancisco’s de Young museum. Given the occasion, the museum was offering free admission to both the museum and the special exhibits.

Special performances were held throughout the day in the lobby of the museum.

De Young is one of the most highly acclaimed museums in the US. It’s spread through 3 stories, and many exhibition “rooms”.

It has a variety of different types of art, from modern art to historical pieces, oil paintings, installations, sculptures, even furniture that takes you back in time from the prehistoric to the present.

Each room has it’s own vibe and feeling. The amount of details in some of pieces was breathtaking.

The special exhibition this month was the “Royal Hawaiian Featherwork” which included some very rare and valuable pieces. The way the textile is merged with feathers to create beautiful clothing is astonishing.

From skirts, to necklaces, to capes every one was handcrafted impeccably.

I had my eye set on a hat that’s just perfect for Autumn. (it wasn’t for sale…)

The museum was such a great experience, that opened our eyes on many cultures and eras.

After we finished browsing the exhibitions, we had a delicious meal and then had our usual latte & macaroons in little Italy.
